Traditional versus trending Halloween candies

Background

Several trending alternative candies were tested against their more traditional counterparts using, variously, a TA-053 3mm puncture probe, a TA-008 1/4” diameter ball probe, and a TA-046 with Mors blade on a TA.XTPlus Texture Analyzer with Exponent software. Candies compared were Haribo Goldbears against Albanese Gummi Bears, Starburst against Amos Peelerz, Peeps versus Sockerbit Foamy Strawberry Dreams, and Reese’s Miniature Cups against Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups. All samples were purchased from local stores and kept at room temperature (~20° C), with minimal handling to avoid altering their temperature.
