UPSIDE Foods' cultivated chicken

Huge news on the cultivated meat front: UPSIDE Foods and GOOD Meat have both received USDA approval to produce and sell their cultivated-cell chicken products nationwide!

After UPSIDE Foods received the first-ever “no questions” letter from the FDA (see our blog post from November 2022 for more info), and GOOD Meat followed them in March of 2023, the USDA followed up with an official approval for both companies. This clearance involved the companies demonstrating full compliance with all federal requirements, from proper labeling and handling instructions to staff training and USDA inspector access. These are steps that any meat-producing company needs to follow, and UPSIDE Foods and GOOD Meat are being held to - and passing - the same rigorous standards.

Cultivated meat is made of cells harvested from animals - in this case, chickens - and grown in a controlled environment. This reduces or eliminates antibiotic use and pathogen exposure, as well as the environmental and ethical costs of raising and slaughtering billions of animals. The objective of cell-based meat is to deliver the same taste and texture as conventional meat, minus the environmental and other negative impacts.

Texture Technologies Corp congratulates UPSIDE Foods and GOOD Meat, and is proud to continue working with established and startup companies that are delivering high-quality cultivated meats.
