Exponent Software running on laptop

User operating Exponent software

**Considering migrating your operating system to Windows 10? **

Here are a few things that you should know before you get started in regards to your texture analyzer’s software.

Most importantly, all of our versions of our Exponent software are fully compatible with Windows 10, as well as Windows 7 and 8*. All versions support 32 and 64 bit.

However, Windows 10 now provides IT departments the ability to use security programs which limit Exponent from accessing the necessary DLL files (Dynamic Link Library) and drivers that run the Exponent software. We have seen a few instances of security settings being appropriate when the Exponent software is initially installed, however, upon periodic system updates the security profiles are tightened up and prevent the Exponent software from re-accessing the necessary DLL files.

What should you do if your computer won’t run Exponent after an upgrade to Windows 10?

  1. Make sure that the Exponent software was installed by someone with administrative rights on the computer.
  2. Make sure that everyone who uses the Exponent Software has full permission on the computer to read and write from and to the Common Data Path, which is is visible at the bottom of the Help>About Exponent> menu.
  3. After confirming full read and write access to the Common Data Path - if you are still experiencing issues - then check with your network or IT administrators to determine if any security updates have shut down previous access to either the folders %SystemFolder% or the %AppFolder%.
  4. Still stuck? Contact your Texture Technologies Regional Manager for assistance who will be happy to assist you.
